Physicians for a National Health Program (PNHP)

Physicians for a National Health Program is a national organization of over 15,000 physicians, medical students and other health care professionals who advocate for a single-payer national health insurance program. Our proposals for reform have appeared in the New England Journal of Medicine and Journal of the American Medical Association. By building public awareness, educating physicians, the public, and policy makers, harnessing media attention and shaping important legislation, PNHP hopes to build wide-spread support for a single-payer solution for our current health care crisis.

PNHP accepts interns year-round. Interns work 4-6 weeks (for medical students) or 6 weeks (for pre-medical students) at the national headquarters located in downtown Chicago. In many cases interns also have the option of working in other major US cities with local PNHP Board members and leaders. Intern projects vary, but most tend to work half-time helping to run this busy national advocacy organization and half-time on an individual project such as organizing a rally or other event and/or researching another country’s health system or other issue.
