Re “Down the Insurance Rabbit Hole,” by Andrea Louise Campbell (Op-Ed, April 5):
Andrea Louise Campbell captures the specter facing us all: sudden medical disaster leading to bankruptcy. Bankruptcy of the financial kind as well as the spirit. One cannot read her article without being struck also by the byzantine description of administrative hoops through which a beneficiary must jump to obtain medical services.
Our health care administrative costs, previously pegged at 31 percent, must now surely approach 35 percent. Meanwhile, developed countries with a single-payer system report efficient management, and the citizens of those countries just need to swipe their smartcards to log in.
