Denzel's not the only John Q!
MILLIONS IN NEW YORK ARE “HEALTH CARE HOSTAGES”

• Right here in New York, 3.2 million of our neighbors don't have any health insurance, and the number nationwide is over 40 million. Uninsured people live sicker and die earlier. That's wrong.

• The rest of us have to fight with our health plans to get the care we need - just like John Q - and we are seeing our premiums and out-of-pocket costs skyrocket and our benefits cut back.

• Any one of us can lose our health coverage at any moment. That's what happened to tens of thousands of New Yorkers after Sept. 11th, and it is still happening because of the recession.

Real life is not a movie. INSTEAD OF TAKING OVER THE E.R., WE NEED...

Health care for all. Health care is too important to be a privilege. It has to be a government-guaranteed basic human right.

Political leaders brave enough to stand up to the big money special interests and vote to make health care a basic human right here in the U.S.

A loud voice from all the John Qs and Jane Qs who believe in comprehensive, quality, affordable health care for all.

IS HEALTH CARE FOR ALL REALLY POSSIBLE IN THE U.S.? YES!

Every other modern country in the world has health care for all. We are the richest, most powerful country on earth. We can do it if we have the will to do it.

Here in the U.S., we already make sure that everyone over 65 gets health care. Just ask your parents or grandparents what life would be like without Medicare! We could have a Medicare-like program covering everybody, including essential benefits like prescriptions and long-term care - but only if we have the political courage to do it!

In Congress, House Concurrent Resolution 99 commits Congress to pass legislation guaranteeing access to health care for all by the next Presidential election in 2004.

In the State Legislature, the "New York Health" bill (S.3354/A.6779) would create a public health insurance program covering all New Yorkers.

"How's this going to end, John?" IN THE REAL WORLD, IT'S UP TO US.

Hollywood won't write the happy ending we need - but joining together, we can.
