Sen. Whitehouse regularly and powerfully calls out Republican complicity and hypocrisy. In this brief clip from a Senate floor speech, he reveals how the recent budget reconciliation bill – aside from slashing Medicaid by $1 trillion via explicit cuts – also generates massive Medicare cuts. As he explains, huge tax cuts for the rich bump up the federal budget deficit by trillions of dollars, leading to an automatic “sequestration” of funds for Medicare. We’ve mentioned this in HJM, but Sen. Whitehouse’s adept rhetorical style really drives home the point.
Circulate it widely. It exposes how Republicans are dismantling health care for the elderly and disabled, not just for the poor.
