PNHP national board secretary Dr. Ed Weisbart discusses his recent piece in Common Dreams, “To Win ‘Medicare for All,’ First Reclaim Medicare From Profiteers.”
Despite the need for improvements such as additional benefits and lower out-of-pocket costs, Dr. Weisbart reminds us that “Medicare is a spectacular public health program, [but] Medicare Advantage is completely different from that.”
After all, the corporate insurers that sell Medicare Advantage plans have financial priorities that are incompatible with public health. “Every time they spend money on our health care,” he says, “that’s a loss.”
