Health care is expected to be a big issue in the 2020 race for the White House. Democratic presidential candidates Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren have pushing for a “Medicare for All” plan. Republicans and moderate Democrats say it won’t work.
Dr. Adam Gaffney, President of Physicians for a National Health Program, explains why he and other doctors are supportive of “Medicare For All.”
“Right now, the private insurance business model is basically built around restricting freedom,” he says. “If you have a private insurance plan, you can only go to the doctors or hospitals that are in network.” A single-payer program, on the other hand, would offer patients free choice of virtually any medical provider in the U.S.
Dr. Gaffney’s excerpt begins at the 14:02 mark.
