The race for governor in the Democratic primary has raised the issue of moving Massachusetts to a single-payer health insurance system (June 10). As a medical student at the Boston University School of Medicine, I want to treat patients based on medical need, not socioeconomic status. Health care is a human right. And it needs to be affordable. That’s why I support having a single-payer system — essentially Medicare for all — which would cover all Massachusetts residents for all medically necessary services.
Let’s continue our legacy of leadership in health care and social justice, and move Massachusetts toward having a truly just, single-payer health care system.
