Under the influence of partisan politics, health insurance and pharmaceutical companies, and hospital administrators, the US health care system often seems to function at odds with the interests of primary care physicians working within the system and the patients the system is supposedly designed to help.
Two plays, Mercy Killers and Side Effects, provide a much-needed reminder of the humanity of these individuals, arguably the most-crucial and least-powerful players in the drama of US health care.
Both plays are 1-act solo performances written and performed by the lively and dynamic Michael Milligan, a veteran actor and playwright who recently staged them back-to-back as The American Mercy Tour at the Greenhouse Theater Center in Chicago, Illinois, and who will tour them nationally in 2018.
