Given the upcoming stimulus package, it is the perfect time to do something about our irrational health care system. What better way to stimulate the economy than to spend funds on those in need of medical services vs. more bridges to nowhere.
The time has come to put to rest the old catchphrase “socialized medicine.” A universal single-payer system is no more socialistic than the Veterans Administration, Medicare (seniors), Medicaid (low-income) or SCHIP (kids).
We are taking care of everyone except the middle-class working stiff, who often is uninsured because his employer does not carry insurance or (due to the economy) he is between jobs, laid-off, involuntarily retired and so forth.
